Presidents Report – March 2024

Welcome to Autumn and excellent weather for light aeroplane flying. We have a number of opportunities for fly-ins in the coming weeks – please note these below as well as on our website.

Thank you to everyone who attended the February meeting for participating in our membership survey. We are sifting through your comments and will incorporate your inputs into our planning for future activities.

Although most of our operations are unaffected, we should be aware that the reporting of contaminated runways has changed to align with ICAO. If you have aircraft landing performance charts in your AFM/POH please look at the CASA Advisory Circular AC 91-32.

Our Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday the 9th of April. Long term councillors Chris Moore, Greg Tabe and Chris Dearden are standing down from our Council. The newly elected Council will meet on the following week to elect the officers of our Club. Please consider coming onto the Council at the April AGM.

Our speaker for March, Steve Fielder, has to travel to PNG. He will now speak in April. I have managed to reconnect with my exchange service opposite number, Tom White, and he has agreed to step into Steve’s slot.

For your diary, please note the upcoming activities:

  • General meeting 12th of March at the West Adelaide Football Club. The presenter will be Colonel Tom White, USMC (Retired) telling us about his exchange tour from California to Australia flying the Douglas A4G Skyhawk with the Royal Australian Navy. Please book in via the Club website.
  • Fly-in to Jamestown for lunch on Friday the 21st of March. Plan on an ETA of 1030. Other clubs have also been invited by the Jamestown Flying Group.
  • Sunday 6th of April Barossa Airshow at Rowland Flat aerodrome.
  • Friday 11th of April fly-in and overnight stay at Vivonne Bay Kangaroo Island. Again, plan on an ETA of 1030.
  • Saturday 31st of May fly-in to Lameroo for lunch.

Safe flying.
