Presidents Report September 2021

The COVID scourge continues interstate and whilst we in SA are not in lockdown the fallout continues to affect event planning.

The Jamestown and Tocumwal airshows have been deferred to next April. The Avalon airshow for 2021, already twice deferred, has now been cancelled and will not be seen again until February 2023.

Other NSW events planned in Temora and Woolongong are unlikely to proceed but we are yet to receive confirmation.

At least we can enjoy the freedom of driving out to the airfield and taking our aircraft for a spin.

On Sunday 26th September we will go ahead with our regular club BBQ at Murray Bridge Airfield, Windsock Lounge. Drive in or fly in for an egg and bacon sandwich or sausage sizzle, coffee and a chat. Cost will be by a donation to the RFDS, our club charity. To help with catering estimates I will circulate a clipboard at the next Club Meeting, or you can email me directly if you wish to attend.

In other news the RAAUS Board elections are open and will close on 28th September. For the first time the ballot is online which should make voting easier. This year there are 3 candidates for 2 positions. One of them is Luke Bayly, an SA local. Please support him to ensure we continue to have future South Australian representation.

Last weekend my wife and I ventured up to the Riverland for a long weekend away. I took the opportunity to call in on new member, David Pocock, in Loxton to check out his RV14A project. Substantially complete now, lacking only paint, paperwork and a few ancillary details.

As a first time builder he has done an excellent job. I was also offered a ride in his and wife Sherry’s RV12. A very nice example with the usual excellent RV handling.

For our September meeting we are very fortunate to have as our speaker, Wing Commander Marija Jovanovich, a RAAF test pilot and currently the Commanding Officer of 10 Squadron RAAF Base Edinburgh. A child migrant from Eastern Europe, Marija has made the most of her opportunities in Australia, and excelled in her RAAF career. She is an excellent speaker and I would recommend you bring your partners along and anyone you know who is considering a career in aviation.

Blue Skies,

Steve

Good judgement comes from experience. Unfortunately, the experience usually comes from bad judgement.
