The main club event in October was the fly away to Arkaroola. Members who made the trip were not disappointed with the perfect weather for flying and also for exploring the many aspects of this exciting wilderness park. Ten aircraft and around 25 people made the journey. The group had lunch around 12:30 Saturday then split into two for the ridge tour or the geology and bush tucker tour. My first time to taste quondongs straight from the bush. After the evening meal most crowded into the observatory for a tour of the heavens via Doug Spriggs 14 inch telescope. The clear skies made it a great night to observe the craters on the moon, rings of Saturn and distance galaxies of stars. The next morning most were up early for a great breakfast and a ride back to the airport for the return home trip still in the best of conditions. The talk for a Northern trip at this time next year is Coober Pedy keep it in mind.
Great talk by Bernard Eckey last month on “Self Launching Sailplane Engine Systems Evolution”- thanks Bernard.
This month we will have three short talks – Club Aircraft Build by Rob Wintulich; Arkaroola Flyaway by Steve Nelson; Oshkosh 2015, a first timers perspective by Greg Tabe
The club Sonex is now at the club’s Murray Bridge hanger. The dedicated build group and others have been working on Saturdays to complete the aircraft and prepare it for flight. The wings and all control surfaces are now installed and adjusted. There is still list of minor items to be completed prior to inspection which we hope to complete this Saturday.
The November Christmas dinner is next month and is in place of the usual Wednesday evening meeting. Look forward to seeing as many as possible at the new venue.
