September heralded the Narromine Ausfly where Brian Degenhardt took out top honours of “Grand Champion” with his homebuilt RV7A. Brian’s airplane is all metal and fitted with a glass cockpit and digital engine control.
At the October monthly meeting Steve Nelson gave a most interesting presentation about the recent Reno Air Race. During the presentation Steve was able show how the various race classes operate and the different circuits for faster and slower aircraft. Steve’s close up photos of the various aircraft enabled members to get a feel for and motivation to attend the event in the future.
Seven aircraft attended the observation rally finishing at Antechamber Bay on Kangaroo island where a stiff headwind made for some challenging approaches to the long grass strip. Steve Biele and his observer took out the prize and were awarded a book detailing the flights of Kingsford Smith in crossing the Atlantic. Pictures from the rally can be seen here on our website and I encourage you to have a look at how club members enjoyed the outing.
