Last month several members attended the SA Aviation Museum Open day at Port Adelaide. There was a good public roll up to see live engine runs and a soft opening of the new hangar facility.
With such a lot of aviation minded people in one place we took the opportunity to hand out flyers promoting the club to prospective new members.
A national Lancair aircraft fly in was held at Goolwa airport on 21-23 April. It attracted 12 various Lancair types from all states except Northern Territory. South Australia was represented by well known club member Ted King.
The same weekend Steve Biele held a workshop visit at his Meadows property in the Adelaide Hills. This aircraft, his second Arion Lightning, is now well advanced, and we look forward to seeing it flying soon. Those attending report a high quality of construction evident. Photos are on the club website.
Over Easter my wife, Dominie, and I were in New Zealand attending the Classic Fighters Airshow in Blenheim. The remnants of a sub tropical cyclone over NZ in the lead up to the airshow caused grief for many trying to get there, including display participants, but by late Good Friday afternoon most had arrived, and the weather was brilliant for the rest of the weekend. This airshow is held every two years alternating with the Wanaka airshow further south. I must say the Kiwis know how to do airshows. Where else in the world can one see up to fifteen WW1 replica fighters in the at one time including seven Fokker triplanes! Also a near 100% radio control scale model of a German V1 flying bomb being flying around, being beaten up by a real Spitfire. I will report next meeting.
I am preparing to fly to Coober Pedy this weekend along with several other club aircraft for the Outback Safari. The weather is cooperating so it should be a good trip.
See you Wednesday.
Best regards,
Steve
