Presidents Report – March 2022

With the easing of hospitality restrictions we are now able to resume monthly club meetings in a more normal fashion from this month. We will still need to continue to register on the club website to keep track of numbers attending but once arriving at West Adelaide Football Club meals will be ordered off the menu, giving your table number as you do so.

There has been a bit of chopping and changing of guest speakers lately and for March I have managed to secure Paul Divett. Paul is a volunteer at the SA Aviation Museum. His aviation career spanned a wide range of experience in Military, GA and International Airline aircraft. His talk will focus on one aspect of his career where he flew commercial amphibious seaplanes in the Whitesundays. He will cover the differences in seaplane versus landplane operations and perhaps make a few recommendations for anyone contemplating getting into this area of aviation.

Please be reminded that annual subscriptions are due and you need to be financial in order to participate in any voting for the AGM in April. Preferred method of payment is by EFT to the Club bank account. Details are on the club website.

Coming up on March 19th is the first of our 2022 Club Fundraiser Bunnings BBQs at Windsor Gardens. It is a fun way to raise money and promote the club with the general public. Monies raised go towards the running of the club, our Scholarship program and supporting RFDS.  8 people are needed for the day, doing about a 4 hour shift each. If you are able to do a shift it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Greg Tabe to volunteer.

The dates for our club fly away to Port Macquarie have been set, departing on April 19th for 13 nights. This flyaway will proceed at a more leisurely pace than last year with less flying and more time off in each port. If you would like more information again please contact Greg Tabe. He has compiled a very extensive spreadsheet of information including all route planning, accommodation options, ground transport and things to do. All you need to do is book your own accommodation and bring your aircraft. If you don’t have one check with Greg as there may be some spare seats available.

April 13th is our AGM and notification along with nomination and proxy forms will go out shortly. This where you as members get to have a say about how your club is run. Most of the current council have served many years and not all of them are standing for re-election. I would really like to see some of the newer members put their hands up and inject some new ideas and enthusiasm into the club.

Blue skies,

Steve
