Presidents Report June 2016

Thanks to Steve Nelson for his talk last meeting “F-1111 The RAAF’s last Bomber” great insight into the design, operation, and thinking behind this interesting aircraft.  Reminder for the next dinner meeting on Wednesday 8th June at the Public Schools Club. Our speaker will be Paul Daw  and the subject ” Air frame failure – Now What”.

Unfortunately due to bad weather the Sonex Introduction Day had to be postponed from the 22nd of May to this coming Sunday (5th of June). Because next Saturday the 4th of June looks like great weather and there is the possibility of rain on the Sunday we are going to have the sausage sizzle and Sonex ready to go all weekend so feel free to come on Saturday and or Sunday. Club members are offered rides. If you have your full RA Oz  license you can take a check flight.

Last months events added the late inclusion of the documentary movie “Return of the Catalina” which is the fascinating story of a group of airmen who recovered a derelict Catalina from Spain returning it to Australia over a two year period. The aircraft is now in the Longreach Museum. Worth viewing- if you missed the session it get the chance again.

A few of our members attended the Barossa Birdmen Fly In on the 14th of May Brian Degenhardt was there in his RV7A and also the club Sonex flown by Greg Tabe with myself as passenger.

On the 28th of May 4 club planes flew over to Goolwa for an impromptu lunchtime pie and chat. Planes observed were Brian Degenhardt – RV7A, Steve Biele – Lightning, Chris Malone Jabiru and the Club Sonex flown by myself with daughter Sadie as passenger. Michael Griffen was also there – not sure if his Tyro came out of the hanger.  The day concluded with a few club members dropping in at the Monarto Model Jet Rally – Amazing machines hard to tell apart from the full size counter part when flying, landing and taking off.
