Presidents Report – April 2024

I hope everyone has enjoyed a lovely Easter break as we move into mid-autumn, my favourite time of the year. A quick google of aviation events reveals that we have just had Ausfly at Wentworth, Warbirds over Scone, and Warbirds over Wanaka in NZ, with the Aldinga airshow just a few days away.

If that is not enough, wait, there’s more. 12-14 April is the RAAUS Fly for Fun Weekend at Parkes NSW. If you don’t want to travel that far then there is another Airshow at Nhill on April 13th. On 18th- 21st April the Antiquers are having their 50th Anniversary National Flyin at Corowa NSW. The Club Safari to WA departs on April 22nd. If you are still looking for more there is another Airshow at West Sale VIC on April 27-28th. Forget Mad March, for aviators it must be Amazing April!

Hopefully some of our members will get to these events and report back to the membership in May.

Last month the club did a Bunnings BBQ fund raiser at Windsor Gardens. The amount raised was $1812 and after costs a profit of $1320 was realised. Thanks again to Greg Tabe for organising and to the members who took part.

April is the month for the Club AGM. This is where the councillors retire and then choose to be re-elected or not. I have come to the difficult decision after seven years as President and more than 12 years on the council, not to stand for re-election. While it has been a privilege to serve the club, and a lot of fun, I think it is time for some new blood and new ideas to steer the club going forward. I will be travelling overseas for a few months so I will not be around the club for a while but I will remain as a regular member when I return.

Following the AGM procedures, which should only take a few minutes we will have a guest speaker from within the club membership. Ed King and Andrew Hogarth traveled up to the Channel Country in far north SA along the Queensland border to check out the abundance of birdlife and wildlife brought about by higher than average inflows to the Lake Eyre basin. Should be an interesting story with some great photos.

Blue Skies,

Steve
