Hi Everyone,
After last months AGM your council met to determine the roles of the council members for this year.
After serving 5 years as President, Chris Moore felt that a change was needed. The council suggested that I would be a suitable candidate and I accepted.
I know that after all the amazing work that Chris has done, I have very big shoes to fill.
Your council for 2017-18 is:
- President Steve Nelson
- Secretary Chris Moore
- Treasurer Greg Tabe
- Webmaster Chris Dearden
- Membership Tim Svenson
- Meals Steve Biele
- Photography, Council Host Rob Wintulich
We look forward to serving you and growing the club.
One of the things I have noticed over the years is that none of us are getting any younger!
Indeed, a number of once active building and flying members have sold their aircraft and hung up their flying boots. We, as a club and as individuals, have a powerful legacy to hand on to future members and particularly the next generation. I would like to see more younger people being encouraged to join our club. To facilitate that, Chris Dearden has produced a very nice club information brochure that can be handed out at public events.
Last weekend a number of members flew or drove to the Barossa Airshow at Rowland Flat. Under perfect weather conditions the airshow was extremely well attended with an estimated 10,000 people there. Member, James Reither, flew the club Sonex aircraft to the event, where it was put on public display. An impromptu decision to allow children in the cockpit resulted in a continuous queue of kids wanting to partake, for the entire day, at least 500 estimated. Hundreds of brochures were handed out as well.
We have another opportunity this Sunday, 9th April, at the South Australian Aviation Museum Open Day, Pt. Adelaide, to promote the club and hand out brochures. If you can help out, even for an hour, please contact Chris Moore for details. If you have other ideas on how to promote the club I would love to hear from you.
Keep the evening of June 26 free for the Adelaide premiere of Michael Smiths film ‘Voyage of the Southern Sun’ at the Capri Cinema. Michael gave us a great presentation last year about his round the world trip in his SeaRey. Click here for details.
In a case of rather poor timing for a new President, I will be overseas in New Zealand for the next 3 weeks and unable to attend any club events in April. I will return in May with a report on the Marlborough Airshow.
Blue Skies,
Steve
One day, or day one, your choice.
