Hello All,
Well just over four weeks to go until our big weekend of celebrations.
While the weekend is a celebration of The Aero Club of Broken Hill, it’s also a chance to celebrate 85 years of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) bringing the finest care to the furthest corners of Australia.
To acknowledge this special anniversary the RFDS Broken Hill Base will throw open their hangar doors on Saturday 19th October. Everyone will be welcome to take a free tour of the RFDS Visitor Centre (voted no.1 attraction in Broken Hill on Trip Advisor), which combines a museum, theatre and shop, with interactive displays showing the history of the service, as well as tributes to the doctors, pilots and flight nurses who work for the Flying Doctor.
There will also be a unique opportunity to tour the working aircraft hangar, get on-board a fully-fitted King Air B200 to see the ‘flying intensive care unit’ up close, as well as being one of the first people to use the brand new RFDS SE Section’s aeromedical simulator. Pilots, flight nurses and doctors will be on hand to talk to the public about their work both in emergency rescues and the important clinic work the RFDS does. It’s a great chance to find out more about this vital and iconic Australian organisation.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service is a charitable organisation which relies on the generosity of supporters to continue their life-saving work. On Saturday evening the funds raised at the auction in Silverton will be donated to the RFDS; so it’s a great excuse to dig deep and bid on one of the wonderful items up for auction!
To this end we have a small but quality list of items for auction which includes a Swiss “Oris” pilots watch, limited RFDS edition valued at around $1900, a “Sony” flat screen LCD TV valued at $900.00, an original painting by Robert Fisher, a print by local artists Julie and Pro Hart, a two day accommodation package courtesy of Emaroo Cottage in either Broken Hill or Mildura, and a magnificent hand knitted pure wool jumper representing the best from our local pastoral industry.
With your help the RFDS can continue to bring the finest care to the furthest corners of Australia for another 85 years.
We are looking forward to meeting you all.
Regards
Bruce Nevill
