Presidents Report – October 2024

Thank you to Secretary Chris Moore for looking after my duties whilst I was away in Europe. The Spring weather is certainly providing excellent flying weather and I trust that you have all taken advantage of the good conditions to gain some flying currency.

Our next Club Meeting is on Wednesday the 9th of October. Our guest speaker will be Terry Horsam on the subject of safety seminars and why sport aircraft pilots should attend. Please arrive by 1830 if you are having dinner before the meeting. As always, please remember to book-in via the Club website. Visitors welcome, email the Secretary if you would like to attend.

Your Council is looking at ways to recruit new members and we are aiming at 10 new members per year. October and November are designated as “recruiting” months and we are offering some incentives to join up; these will be posted on the website over the next few days. We are also seeking feedback from members on ideas to improve the club and to provide members with new benefits. If you have any ideas about ways to improve the Club please speak to any Councillor.

The upcoming activities are as follows:

  • The overnight fly-in visit to Boston Island (near Port Lincoln) is now confirmed for the 15th of November. Accommodation for 10 people is available; please bring your bed linen and towels. A booking sheet will be available at the meeting.
  • Workshop visit to Ian Johnson’s Waiex build on 9 November from 11am.
  • Christmas function on the evening of the 20th of November. Your Council has agreed to subsidise Club members at $60. Non members will be $70 per ticket. Please note the date in your diary. There will also be a booking sheet at the meeting.
  • The RFDS fundraising BBQ at Murray Bridge Aerodrome is planned for Saturday the 7th of December.
  • Looking ahead, we are planning lunch fly-ins to the Barossa Valley and to Lameroo and an overnight to Kangaroo Island.

See you at the meeting.

Safe flying.
