Presidents Report – November 2025

Our visit to Woodside airstrip on Friday the 10th of October was well attended, and we visited Jim McDowell’s and Jim Whaley’s hangars. The weather forecast was for gusty winds so most of us drove up to Woodside. Thank you to Secretary Barry Windle for arranging the visit and for arranging the lunch venue.

The 18th of October Bunnings sausage sizzle fundraiser barbecue was a hectic affair and many Spring shoppers queued up for food and drinks. Thank you to Councillor Greg Holland and our volunteers for a fantastic effort.

Our Club Christmas Dinner is scheduled for 1830 on Wednesday the 19th of November at the West Adelaide Football Club.  Please book in via the Club website as soon as possible. This year the football club want to know our attendance numbers two weeks ahead of the event so please don’t delay in booking. The cost is $65 for members and $75 for non-members – payment by EFT to the Club bank account. Please ensure that you add your name in the Reference so that we can track your payment. If you have to cancel your booking, please email Ian Pearce and Barbara Trappett prior to 1830 Sunday the 16th of November so that a refund can be arranged.

We are planning to fly/drive into Rowland Flat aerodrome for a bbq lunch on Sunday the 23rd of November with an ETA of 1100. Please bring your own food and drinks for the bbq. The new owners of Rowland Flat require the names of the Pilot in Command and evidence of public liability insurance. If you are planning on flying in please scan your insurance certificate and email to me.

The nice Spring weather is giving us greater opportunities to get out and fly our light aircraft. Managing the risks associated with flying is fundamental to aviation safety and education is an ongoing activity. An opportunity to participate in a formal educational forum at the Clare Valley aerodrome is available on Sunday the 30th of November at 1030. A CASA Avsafety briefing and an OzRunways presentation will be made. Please reserve your position via the CASA website.

Safe Flying,

John Siebert
