Presidents Report – November 2024

The speaker at our last meeting spoke about the importance of clear and concise communications in our radio interactions – the essential element in our building of an “air picture” of traffic around us. The theme was also the major part of the AVSAFE presentation at the South Australian Aviation Museum on the 17th of October.

Sadly, it would appear that communications may have been a major factor in an accident in NSW that claimed the life of a former Fleet Air Arm colleague – Vale Gaz Criddle.

On a more positive note, we are seeking feedback from members on ideas to improve the club and to provide members with new benefits. If you have any ideas about ways to improve the Club please speak to any Councillor. Our February meeting will feature a forum on how best to shape the future of the Club.

The upcoming activities are as follows:

  • This Saturday – Workshop visit to Ian Johnson’s Waiex from 1100 on Saturday the 9th of November. You need to be logged in to see the address. Please book on the page. A light lunch will be provided by Ian and his family.
  • The overnight fly-in visit to Boston Island (near Port Lincoln) is now confirmed for the 15th of November. Accommodation for 10 + people is available; please bring your bed linen and towels. There are two double bedrooms still available + the shearers quarters. Please contact me if you wish to join the team that has already booked in at the October General Meeting.
  • Christmas function on the evening of the 20th of November. Your Council has agreed to subsidise Club members at $60. Non members will be $70 per ticket. Please notify any special dietary requirements when booking via the Club website and make payment direct to the club account. Friends and family are all welcome.
  • The RFDS fundraising BBQ at Murray Bridge Aerodrome is planned for Saturday the 7th of December.
  • Looking ahead, we are planning lunch fly-ins to the Barossa Valley and to Lameroo and an overnight to Kangaroo Island.

See you at the workshop visit.

Safe flying.
