Presidents Report November 2012

The last weekend in October the Sterling North Aero Club (just South of Port Augusta) hosted the Sport Aircraft Club weekend fly in. Aircraft began arriving from 10:00 am- not sure who arrived first. Altogether 19 members and 10 aircraft. Sterling Club put on a fine barbeque in the new club room and members chatted on over lunch while their president Julian Hipwell gave us a little history of the club and how it reinvented itself from a gliding club to now – as an all powered flight aero club. We all felt welcome and heartily thank the Sterling North Club for their hospitality. Some members managed to get some flying in over the course of the afternoon. Around 3:00pm everyone piled into the bus and elected to finish the afternoon at the motels. Evening saw members of both clubs enjoy a meal together. On Sunday morning 11 members boarded a specially designed boat with 2 x 140 horsepower outboard motors for a tour to the upper reaches of the gulf with excellent commentary from the knowledgeable local operator. Lunch time departure for most members with one worrying moment when Trevor Chapman returned with an engine unable to get full power. Fortunately the problem was fixed and he proceeded on his way home. Perfect weather-great weekend.

The meeting this month is the Christmas Dinner meeting and if any member would still like tickets for the Club Christmas Dinner Friday the 16th of November please contact Judith King on telephone 8379 6166 or email jud@internode.on.net

Also don’t forget the 1st release movie followed by finger food Sunday afternoon 25th November – new release James Bond movie “The Sky Fall”.

Chris Dearden is looking for some more background photos of this year’s events and club aircraft for display at the Christmas dinner so if you have any still to down load from your device please do it now and email them to Chris.
