Welcome to the first Winter edition of the “Plane Paper”. After a very dry and, for flying, good weather during May, we have seen some welcome rain at the end of the month. Gardeners and farmers will be happy but we aviators are probably now set to consider the adverse effects of passing fronts as Winter sets in.
On the 15th of May Infinitus Aero’s Barrie Rogers hosted a workshop visit to see the E22 Spark electric aircraft. 11 members attended and the feedback that I received was that it was a very successful visit.

I must say that when I learned that the electric engine was supplied by 800 volts of DC power I was amazed. Puts my 12 volt off-road refrigerator system setup as something from the Dark Ages!
Our next Club Meeting is on Wednesday the 12th of June and our speakers are Treasurer Greg Tabe and the team from this year’s Club Safari tour of Western Australia. Please remember to book-in via the Club website.
Coming up on the 14th of June is a visit to the RFDS at Adelaide Airport. The visit is being arranged by Councillor Andrew Hogarth. Whilst the list is closed, as numbers are limited, please get in touch with Andrew if you wish to be placed on a standby list – in case someone cancels.
Your Council is looking into the following activities over the coming months:
- Visit to the firefighting facilities at Brakunga near Woodside.
- Brooklands Park fly in for lunch at the Wellington Hotel.
- Overnight visit to Boston Island (near Port Lincoln).
- Workshop visit to Ian Johnson’s Waiex build.
- Christmas function on the evening of the 20th of November. Please note the date in your diary.
Looking further ahead, members planning on attending the 2025 Avalon Airshow is a month later than usual; 25th to the 30th of March 2025.
See you at the meeting.
Safe flying.
John Siebert
