Well, I trust that all members are able to stay warm during this unusually cold Winter. Cold frontal systems and troughs delivering low clouds and drizzle have certainly proved challenging for VFR flight.
Nevertheless, Heather and I made some cross country flights in the RV4: Oodnadatta, William Creek and Gawler were destinations with refuelling stops at Leigh Creek and Port Pirie. Trevor Wright at YWMC is keen to see as many of us that can make it at the upcoming Fly In 27th-29th of September. It sounds like a lot of aviation fun.
Andrew Hogarth reports that the visit to the Royal Flying Doctor Service at Adelaide Airport on the 14th of June was a success. Thank you Andrew for arranging the visit.
The CASA Board met in Adelaide on the 26th of June and I represented the Club at their “Meet the Board” function. Both the CEO and the Chairman showed a keen interest in the sport aviation sector.
Our next Club Meeting is on Wednesday the 10th of July and our speaker will be Steve Ahrens about his adventures during his fly-in visit to Oshkosh. Please arrive by 1830 if you are having dinner before the meeting. As discussed at the June meeting, we will commence the meeting at 1930. Again, please remember to book-in via the Club website.
Your Council has been discussing the future shape and functioning of our Club. Our aim is to undergo a strategic review over the coming months. Ideas about how we could promote the club, especially to younger potential members and different aviation enthusiasts, are sought from everyone. Promotion via social media is something that will be introduced. Please make an input and contact any of your Councillors. We envisage holding a club forum once we have sifted through the suggestions.
The upcoming activities are as follows:
- Brooklands Park fly in for lunch at the Wellington Hotel. The date is set for Friday 26th July at 11am. Transport will be arranged to and from the Wellington Ferry.
- Club BBQ’s at Murray Bridge Aerodrome are planned for the Saturday’s 17th August and the 7th of December.
- The second and final Bunnings BBQ for 2024 is on Saturday the 7th of September.
- Overnight visit to Boston Island (near Port Lincoln). We have made contact with the owner and a mid November date is suitable.
- Workshop visit to Ian Johnson’s Waiex build. Chris Dearden and Ian are working on a suitable date.
- Christmas function on the evening of the 20th of November. Please note the date in your diary.
See you at the meeting.
Safe flying.
