Presidents Report August 2016

Around thirty sport aviation club members attended the Aviation Museum at Port Adelaide on the 23rd of July for a unique experience. Steve Nelson and his colleagues at the aviation museum put on a cockpit tour of the F111 fighter bomber. Many of our members have now sat in the cockpit of a F111 and been given an instructional briefing on the operation of the instruments, the ejection pod, the swing wings, and other systems – great and memorable occasion for all those that participated.

After the Aviation Museum many of the group reformed at the Birkenhead Tavern for lunch. This was a great social event and I have heard a number comments saying the lunch was good value. Thanks to Steve and the aviation museum. Photos on the club website thanks to Chris Dearden and Clem Tay.

The next event is the fly or drive to Karoonda to visit Jeff Morgan and his DC3 project Saturday 20th August arrive around 11am. Lets make this another well attended Sport Aircraft Club Event. It is not far away -only 45nm from Murray Bridge airport. If you are flying or driving bring a picnic lunch. Details are on the website so put it in your diary now.

At the monthly meeting next Wednesday we will be given a technical presentation by James Hubbard on “Dynamically Balancing Aircraft Propellers”. James holds a L2 maintenance authority and runs an RA Aus approved maintenance centre at the Recreational Pilots Academy operating a Murray Bridge Airport.

If you would like to fly the club built Sonex get yourself into the flying user group, by asking one of of the council, then download the documents from the website and book the aircraft using the web facility available to the flying group.

“The modern airplane creates a new geographical dimension.  A navigable ocean of air blankets the whole surface of the globe.  There are no distant places any longer:  the world is small and the world is one.”  ~Wendell Willkie
