Presidents Report August 2012

The August monthly meeting was well attended by members who were given a great insight into non destructive testing of aircraft components by Mark Wigley. Mark’s presentation included a vast hands on display of many of the instruments used to find cracks and flaws in metal and composite components.

Sue Ball presented an interesting report from her recent trip to Oshkosh and encouraged members who have not yet made the pilgrimage to do so in the near future.

Mike Holtby, ably abetted by Chris Malone gave a slide presentation of the highlights of the recent Club Safari which was organised by Chris Malone and flew to Coral Bay in Western Australia via Yulara and Karijini and returning via the Nullarbor. The trip included 7 aircraft 5 of them belonging to club members. Great trip hopefully we can encourage Chris to organise another next year for those members and friends that can spare the time in July- keep it in mind for 2013.

Events coming up are a workshop visit to Morrie Hoy’s place on 26th of August to see his 99.9% completed Lancair-360. Reminder with directions will be emailed to club members closer to the dated.

Speaker for the next meeting on the 12th of September is Ted Meuwsen on the restoration of his Nanchang including his recent search in China for supplies of replacement parts.

On Saturday the 22nd of September there is an observation Rally leaving from Murray Bridge planned to about one hours flying time with the destination for lunch being Chapman’s Winery at AnteChamber Bay on Kangaroo Island. Put your name down for the Rally at the next club meeting. Thanks to the council and some dedicated members other events still to come this year include film night, club weekend fly away and Christmas breakfast fly-in.

Your council has welcomed a new council member namely Chris Dearden as the person responsible for maintaining the clubs website- we ask for support for Chris from club members aircraft photo’s and reports about events.
