Bob Macintosh AFC OAM (ret) MID

Abstract & Bio: Bob Macintosh joined the RAAF in 1951 and graduated as a pilot in December 1952. He saw “active service” in the Korean War, the Thai/Malay border insurgency and the Vietnam War. His RAAF flying career included fixed wing aircraft from Tiger Moth to Sabre and helicopters from Sioux to Iroquois. He was a flying instructor on Wirraways, Vampires and Iroquois and his flying time totaled just over 4,000 hours.  His helicopter flying included more than 2,000 hours on Iroquois – nearly 1,000 in Vietnam alone. He retired after 27 years with the rank of Wing Commander.

His talk will focus on flying Meteor jets in Korea and compare the capabilities of the Mustang, Meteor, Sabre and MIG 15 in that war. He will conclude with a brief outline his subsequent career which included flying UH-2 Iroquois in Malaya during the Indonesian “Confrontation” and a tour with No 9 Squadron in Vietnam.

He will be happy to answer questions after the talk.

Visitors are welcome to attend. Gold coin donation.   Refreshments available after the talk.
