Geoff Constantine is organising a fly/bus/drive visit to the Cobdogla Steam and Irrigation Museum Open Day
Here's a thought for a pleasant outing next Sunday. (Oct 3). The Cobdogla Steam and Irrigation Museum just southwest of Barmera is having an open day ( the first I think for the last 18 months or so) and it's a seriously fun day. Farmers from miles around bring inventions and machines, many from pioneer days, and fire them up on the day.
|
I gather the open day is from 11.00 to 4.,00. Lunches are available on site.

There is a private airstrip one mile NW of Kingston on Murray, about nine or ten km. by road from the museum. I've organised ground transport from and back to the strip, costing $10 per person, which will probably end up as a donation to the museum.

Airstrip details; 34 deg 12' S 140 deg 19.5' E Elev. approx 140 ft. Runway 12/30 600 m 23/05 400 m but with sharp dropoff at the NE end and trees on the SW end. The surface is sand but firm. (On both runways) Slightly undulating. I drove along both of them a few weeks ago. Property owners; Alan & Angela Johns. Their son Doug ( Ph. 0400 786 046) has a Jabiru based there.

Alternatively, for those who would prefer a proper aerodrome, Loxton has a 12 seater self drive minibus available for hire - $150 a day. ( Tania 0438 845 968) No special licence needed. For six or more people it becomes quite affordable. About a 35 minute drive from Loxton.
