Hi

Having returned form the club fly away on Friday I brought an unwanted guest home with me in the form of COVID, so I will keep this letter brief.

The fly away was enjoyable but not without some weather challenges which are possible on the east coast at any time of year. There were some weather delays but no rescheduled stays and all the aircraft behaved. Probably the highlight was the Victor One visual route at 500’ offshore along the Sydney coastline.

I hope to get a full report for the June meeting. Click to see Photo Gallery

Two of our members, Marc Michel and Steve Jenkins participated in a 4 aircraft vintage formation over the Adelaide CBD to commemorate Anzac day.

Marc was leading in his Chipmunk with Steve behind in his Moth Minor with 2 Tiger Moths in the Echelon positions.

It must have been quite a sight for the large turnout following 2 years of restricted numbers.

Photo taken on their return to Aldinga.
This month’s speaker is Richard Geytenbeek, a gliding instructor from Gawler. Glider pilots have a sixth sense when it comes to weather observations as a successful flight depends on it. Richard will bring his wealth of experience to the interpretation of South Australian weather patterns, the ones we fly in every day.

Hopefully this will give all pilots an appreciation of the best time to fly and where the dangers lie, a safety benefit for us all.

Don’t forget the Club BBQ on Saturday 14th May at Murray Bridge Airfield. The usual format from 1030 am onwards. Entry by donation with all proceeds to our charity, the RFDS. Let me know if you are coming as it will help with getting the catering right.

A couple of fly-ins have appeared on the calendar. The Barossa Birdmen are hosting an event at Truro Flats on 21-22 May. Don’t forget to vote beforehand though!

On the Saturday of the June long weekend, June 11th, the Sunraysia Sport Aircraft Club are hosting their annual event at Wentworth Aerodrome. This airfield has recently been upgraded with an all- weather sealed runway and taxiway. See the club calendar for more details on both these events.

Another few days of isolation to go….

Blue skies,

Steve
We don’t rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training- Archilochus
